Tips to Free Up Storage Space on iOS Devices
Remove Photos & Videos frequently
With the usage of iCloud and Photo Stream, all the pictures and videos on your iPhone get synced to the iPad automatically and they can occupy about 2MB of space each which will take up a lot of storage space.
To avoid that you need to keep transferring the photos from the iOS device to your computer and then delete them from your iPad. You could also opt for a paid iCloud account.
Delete All Music
Delete the music in your iDevice and in stead set up iTunes Home Sharing to play music from your PC. With iTunes Match you can listen to music from your iTunes Library anywhere you go, thanks to iCloud.
You can also use apps to stream music to your iPhone and iPad. There are a lot of apps available like Pandora, Spotify and Rdio.
Delete Completed Games & Unused Apps
Some of the apps like game apps are quite big and use a lot of storage space, as much as 2GB. So, once you stop playing a game don't keep it stored in your iDevice unnecessarily. Make space for new ones by deleting the old one.
Remove Watched Videos
Same as is the case of game apps, you can delete the videos stored in your iDevice should be deleted if you've already watched it as it takes upto 500MB of storage space. You can watch it later by downloading or streaming it to view later.
Prefer Standard Definition Videos
Standard definition videos take lesser space than HD, especially if you have an iPhone or a non-retina iPad. You can find the settings for this in iTunes under 'Options' in the box next to 'Prefer standard definition videos'. And then you can delete the HD videos to make more space.
iCloud streaming is a lot helpful when you don't want too much storage space in your iDevice occupied. You can always make use of music or videos stored in iCloud anytime and anywhere even if you have 16GB or less space on your iDevice.
