Update: This weekend is Free Comic day, to celebrate Disney is having a number of things going one. 1) You can pick up the Disney Comics App for free and download a couple free books or 2) Until 5/11 if you buy $20 worth of disney products at a Disney Store location, you will be able to get a coupon to download the App for free! but you better hurry, there is only 100,000 coupon available.
Personally, I feel it is never too early to get into Comic books. The only trouble is, that for younger kids trying to follow along the story can be a bit difficult. I have tried reading them to Rock, but it is harder than it looks. So what does a parent do? Well thankfully, Disney/Marvel has decided to release a number of Apps in a similar vein as the Peter Pan and Beauty and The Beast Apps we have previously reviewed. This time, we are taken into the action packed world of Marvel Superheroes. In anticipation to the huge Release of The Avengers this coming weekend, Disney Publishing has given us two separate stories.
 Avengers Origins:Assemble!
Donât worry about spoilers; this story doesnât follow the movie plot. Actually, it tells the second story of the Avengers which includes the discovery of Captain America.  The story is narrated by the one and only Stan Lee (co-creator of The Avengers and all around Comic book legend). Also, included are innovative mini games to keep things interesting.  Rock and my favorite being a tie between swiping the screen to have Hulk punch a baddie into the sea and helping Thor with his Hammer sap an onrush of bad guys. In addition, hidden throughout the story are little easter eggs which when all collected lead to a typical Marvel surprise (readers of the comic books will know what it is). Surprisingly the story is pretty long, especially with all the mini game which results in a full and rich experience. Check out Rock and I reading and playing with the App:
Avengers Origins: Assemble! is Available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch ($1.99).
Avengers Origins: Hulk
Similar to the Avengers story, The Hulk recounts the story of how Bruce Banner is transformed into the Incredible Hulk. We reviewed the physical book and story here. Again this is narrated by the ever present Stan Lee and contains a multitude of mini games from throwing cars to calibrating scientific equipement in order to prevent an explosion. I will have to say that some of the games may be difficult for younger kids to figure out on their own, but once they doâ¦watch out. Check out Rock and I reading and playing with the App:
Avengers Origins: Hulk is Available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch ($1.99).
Disclosure: I received the app for review purposes but no other compensation. My post is m unbaised opinion on the apps.
